I was born in Rio de Janeiro, in 1977, where I current live, after spending many years in the United States and Australia studying and working in Graphic Design. I have earned a Bachelor in Graphic Design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, and also a Masters in Communications Design at the Swinburrne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia. But the passion for art making has never left me. After many years working in the branding industry, in 2014 I have decided to dedicate myself full time to art, in photography, silkscreen and painting.
What I find most fascinating in art is how we can communicate our deepest, innermost feelings and ideas with another person without words. One may say I'm a follower of Malevich's Suprematism, pursuit of art as pure feeling, pure emotion. We all live, love and suffer equally. Something I have learned from my time working in branding is to use form and color to communicate something as succinctly as possible. Therefore I try to use the simplest geometric forms and colors in my painting, because I find that the representational form can take away from the real feeling the artist is trying to express. In my work I look back to the great masters and focus on the essence of the emotion the artist intended to convey and how it makes people feel even now. In this journey I need to investigate my own feelings and perceptions as well as those of others. It's a very fulfilling work, as I learn that, despite all our differences, we all love and suffer the same way, and I hope my art can make things a bit easier when somebody sees our shared emotions in one of my paintings.
