Works of Helen Kagan presents a unique amalgam of various genres as the artist references the precision of hard edge painting, the expansiveness of color field and the gestural nuance of abstract expressionism. The resulting works are both expansive and immersive, inviting the viewer to experience the simultaneity of depth and recession, spontaneity and strategy.
Helen´s command of the painted surface is immediately apparent in the formal quality of her work. While her paintings are beautifully rich, the seduction of their surfaces belie the complexity of their content. The works suggest a simultaneous questioning of the tenets of abstract expressionism and color-field painting.
The spontaneity of gesture is set against the fastidious technique of hard edge, while expansive areas of color are offset by terse geometries. The works seductively create a convergence of abstract styles; hard and soft edges collide, gestures emerge from the expanses of color and layers bounce to the forefront, while others recede.
Painting in blurring lines between realism and expressionism helps Helen probe the internal and external dialogue faced in her multi-directional narratives.
Coming from a family of scientists, Helen Kagan PhD, has been developing her unique technique and style as “Healing Arts” which is her unique way to integrate Fine Art and the Art of Healing. Being on a Journey, going towards the Light, awareness of 'Here and Now', and of course - 'j'oie de vivre' – are the spiritual messages always present in her art.
Helen grew up in a Communist State where oppression and control were a daily reality. In 1991 her quest for freedom led her to the USA, whereto she brought her Jewish heritage, a couple of graduate degrees, and an unending thirst to explore the World and its meaning.
Helen works mainly with oils and acrylics, lately is experimenting with mixed media. She's been painting as long as she remembers, since 2005 does it professionally. A holistic therapist and artist, Dr. Kagan believes art as a powerful form of self-expression is a vehicle for emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being and can enhance healing to those in need.

(www.ArtSynergism.com). There's no known equivalent of creating art the same way they do - simultaneously, together, on the same canvas, spontaneously, allowing each other's creativity to flow uncensored by another. So far they created 10 large canvases (48"x48" each), one for each Muse (see images), and a large 2-sided Screen (8 x10 feet each side).
This Unique Collection "Muses and Music” will be unveiled in SPECTRUM @ ArtBasel Miami 2016, Booth #111.
